AS Zambia prepares for the 2013 United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly to be co-hosted by Livingstone and Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe, it is also the same year when the country’s tourism capital will be celebrating the David Livingstone Bicentenary (DLB).

DAVID Livingstone Bicentenary (200th anniversary) UK liaison officer Belinda Hodge has announced plans to develop the event into a world-class festival and draw tourists from all over the world.
The Livingstone Arts, Cultural & Sporting Events Development Organisation has been formed as a non-profit-making Trust with the aim of being a private-public partnership, working with the community, businesses, the government and other organisations.

Next year it will be 200 years since the birth of Dr David Livingstone in Blantyre in Scotland – on 19 March 1813. He went on to become famous for his expeditions in Africa as a medical missionary and to be the first European to set eyes on the magnificent Victoria Falls in the mid 1850’s which he named after Queen Victoria. The town of Livingstone, in turn, was named after him.
