Visit Zambia in 2013, when the country will be celebrating the bicentenary of Scottish explorer and missionary, David Livingstone.

The Ultimate Travel Company, October 2012

The year 2013 marks 200 years since the birth of David Livingstone, who was born in Blantyre, Scotland, in 1813. He went on to become famous for his expeditions in Africa as a medical missionary and was the first European to set eyes on the Victoria Falls in the mid-1850s, which he named after Queen Victoria. The town of Livingstone, in turn, was named after him.

Victoria Falls is one of Africa's most impressive sights and any visit to Zambia simply isn't complete without witnessing these awe-inspiring falls. Livingstone offers a huge array of activities, from the natural beauty of the region which provides the perfect backdrop for a traditional African sundowner, or a quiet moment listening to the vervet monkeys playing in the trees, or the fish eagles soaring overhead. You could experience the thrill of the terrifying Zambezi white water rapids, or the calmer, but no less thrilling canoe safaris and elephant rides. A rich history can be seen at the early Stone Age archaeological sites at the Falls, which show the emergence of primitive humankind as far back as 60,000 years. In short, Livingstone is a vibrant multi-cultural melting pot of culture, jaw-dropping natural beauty and spectacular wildlife.

From March - November 2013, Livingstone will come alive with a huge array of activities celebrating this special year, making it the ideal time to visit this incredible country.
